Sara Barney is the founder and principal interior designer of BANDD/DESIGN, a residential interior design firm established in 2017 that has completed more than 170 residential projects in Austin, Southern California, and nationwide. Specializing in high-quality, approachable residential design, Barney leads projects that range from full home renovations to new construction. In 2025, BANDD/DESIGN served as lead designer and developer for House Beautiful Magazine’s Whole Home Showhouse project. She also launched BANDD/DEVELOPMENT in 2021, expanding the firm’s focus to residential development and custom homes. Before founding BANDD/DESIGN, Barney built her career as an executive in the entertainment and sports industries, working with SXSW, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. This background informs her ability to manage fast-paced projects while delivering timeless residential interiors. She holds degrees in Corporate Communication and Interior Design from the University of Texas. Barney has been named to Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women Next Gen, recognized multiple years as one of Austin Monthly’s Women to Watch, and ranked among the top interior designers in the Austin area. She has been nominated for an International Design & Architecture Award and HGTV’s Designer of the Year. She is a member of the Design Leadership Network, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and the Female Founder Collective, and divides her time between Austin and Los Angeles.
